How do I become a personal stylist for female clients?

Do I need experience to train as a personal stylist?

Is the course online or in person?

The course is delivered entirely online, so you can train from anywhere in the world. It includes live weekly masterclasses, a WhatsApp community group, and practical challenges you complete with friends or family acting as practice clients.

How long is the course?

The course runs for 8 weeks, with one module unlocking each week. You’ll work with practice clients partway through the course and complete a final assessment in the last week. You can’t fast-track it, but you keep lifetime access to the learning platform afterwards.

Will I need my own clients to practise on?

Yes. You’ll need two practice clients for practical assignments. Friends or family members can help, and students may also pair up to practise with one another.

What does the course cover?

Topics include personal style assessment, body shape and proportion, style personality profiling, wardrobe edits, personal shopping (in person and online), lingerie, shapewear and bra fit advice, outfit-building techniques, social media basics for stylists, and a dedicated module on launching or growing your own styling business.

Can I make money as a personal stylist? How much do personal stylists earn in the UK?

A personal styling qualification can help you develop services for clients, but it does not guarantee paid work or a particular income. What you earn depends on your experience, location, services, pricing and number of clients. The course includes training on planning and promoting a personal styling business.

What's the difference between a personal stylist and a personal shopper?

A personal stylist focuses on curating a client’s overall look and wardrobe, offering broader guidance on style identity, proportion, and outfit-building. A personal shopper focuses specifically on selecting and purchasing items in-store or online, often based on a stylist’s brief. Many professionals, including LCS graduates, offer both services as part of the same client relationship.

Do I need to learn colour analysis too, or is that a separate skill?

Colour analysis is a separate, complementary skill rather than a required part of this course. Many personal stylists choose to add it later, since knowing a client’s most flattering colours strengthens the styling advice you can offer. If you’re interested, London College of Style also runs a dedicated Colour Analysis for Creatives Advanced Diploma.

What are the entry requirements?

A competent understanding of spoken and written English (IELTS Level 6 or equivalent)

Part One – Live Online Masterclass

Your training begins with a live online theory session where you’ll explore the principles behind the 12-season colour analysis system.

Together, we’ll revisit the foundations of seasonal colour analysis before introducing the colour dimensions that create the sub-seasons.

How much practical training is included?
