It was an absolute pleasure to be able to attend London Fashion Week on behalf of London College of Style and I am even more thrilled that I get to blog about it too! It was Day 2 of LFW and I got to see Rocky Star SS20.

Why Rocky Star?

I specifically chose Rocky Star as my own natural style is romantic-feminine with edge and this SS20 collection didn’t let me down. There was an exciting buzz waiting for the show to start.

Inspiration for the Collection

Rocky Star showcased a cultural blend of Indian craftsmanship with a western twist – and what I mean by that, you could clearly see within the collection. Taking inspiration from the heritage of Indian style, the detailing of embroidery and lace, Rocky elevated this traditional look by mixing and blending key important trends that the western world would love. Starting with a neutral palette of creams and black, he also chose this gorgeous magenta pink floral design that weaved its way through the entire collection making them all workable pieces together. In an interview for London College of Style Instastories by Rashmita Goyal, Rocky Star talks about SS20 collection “It’s called Indian Summer, it’s kind of exotic for me, inspired by the Bhoga wheels of an Indian Palace”. You can see the detailing of these wheels in the prints on the fabric.

Styling Analysis

This romantic and feminine finesse was a dream to watch – I loved the styling of skirts over trousers, how he used sequins for a day look that you could easily adapt to evening style. I noticed a couple of t-shirts too so this indicates to me a desire to possible make this collection a commercial line perhaps. The bags whilst they toned in well would also make for exciting individual accessories, and I loved how all the models wore each outfit with heavy black boots, this again gives a great nod to the modern look. If you look closer at the tailoring pieces, these were layered with hoodie style tops or tunics to make for a street-style edge.

The layering was the key signature look that I took from this collection, a characteristic style you associated with Indian styling but one with this modern twists make for an exciting collection, one I can’t wait to see more of.
