  • Ideal for beginner to intermediate level photographers, the Photography Foundation Diploma is highly practically based to engage you in key areas of Portrait, Fashion and Street (Photojournalism) Photography, expanding your technical and creative skills in studio and location work.

    Ideal for beginner to intermediate level photographers, the Photography Foundation Diploma begins with the foundations of technical camera usage.   Getting to fully understand your camera and equipment in a professional context, the course quickly elevates to focus on professional focused learning with a host of exciting industry lead projects.

    Highly practical and engaging masterclass style of learning will train you in key areas of Fashion, Portrait and Street (Photojournalism) Photography, where you will expand your technical and creative skills in studio and location work.

    Begin by learning (or elevating existing) knowledge in technical camera operation, using studio and natural lighting, covering  depth of field, shutter speed, capturing motion, light temperature, lenses, digital image resolution, ISO and shutter speed, methods of focusing the lens (auto, continuous, single etc.).

    Apply a host of newly mastered technical skills and techniques to a range of industry lead shoots in studio and location environments.

    We will connect you to London’s leading modelling agencies and artists for inspiring collaborations.  The fashion component will create the opportunity to shoot with professional models, styled in designer looks from leading fashion PR, styled by experienced fashion stylists. Gain access to creative teams of professional hair and makeup – elevating you portfolio work to industry level.  This component teaches you the expertise to research, produce, manage and direct independently. All students will complete training understanding how to publish works in leading fashion publications, or to commission works for paying commercial clients.

    The portraiture component will  include the explore the art of capturing the personality of each and every subject. Learn the art of composition, background choice and various lighting setups from artificial and natural sources.   Decide on how to frame and position your client, capturing their likeness, expression, personality and mood from a range of portraiture styles; including traditional, lifestyle and environmental to conceptual, candid and surreal.

    The Photojournalism (Street Photography) component of the course, explores the power of visual storytelling. Learn the art of professional photojournalism in conveying real life stories. Relating to your subjects, their views, passions and concerns as an eyewitness to real life events. From essential kit and equipment, you’ll learn how to publish capture images that convey a visual narrative in an unbiased and fair way. ‘If your pictures aren’t good enough you’re not close enough’ – said noted war photographer Robert Capa. This module of the course will introduce you to news photography that enables you to communicate storytelling to media editors and the general public for commissioned works.

    Post-production skills will focus on the basics of Adobe Creative suite Photoshop, enabling you how to re-touch your own imagery in curating and editing your portfolios for prospective industry clients.

    Engaging aspiring photographers wishing to obtain professional careers in these areas of photography, this course is also suitable for those wishing to produce elevated portfolios in application for higher education at Bachelors or Master degree level.

    The course requires a 3-day per week study commitment, running on campus every Monday and Friday from 9am – 5pm and a third day (21 hour per week commitment) allowance for course work, optional industry working opportunities, live projects, key excursions, visits and group assignments.

  • Entry Requirements

  • Successful applicants will demonstrate a keen interest in the subject areas of fashion and personal styling, showing enthusiasm and commitment to take responsibility to work hard in a creative industry steeped environment that encourages creatives to flourish.

    At LCS, we recognise that some of the most creative individuals are not necessarily the ones the excel academically. Therefore, please apply if you do not have the academic standard below and are passionate in your decision to be a stylist or have relevant work experience.

    Preferably 3 GCSEs (grade A-C) or BTEC National Diploma or equivalent for international students.

    Applications must be at least 18 years old at the start of term.
