An industry linked Foundation Fashion Photography training aimed at new photographers, designers, stylists, art directors and beginners starting their journey in this field. Designed and supported by celebrity fashion and portrait photographer Leigh Keily and his respected photographic team.

  • Would you like to photograph established models backstage at the leading fashion weeks, and turn your creative eye behind the lens into a profitable business? The professional life of a fashion photographer is an exhilarating one, linking you directly to the fast paced and glamorous world of the fashion industry, with the opportunity to travel the world, commissioned to work with brands, celebrity, publications and glittering high profile events.

    Course Outline

    The training will explore the history of photography, fashion and art. You will discuss and work on tasks relating to iconic fashion photographers through your own work.

    You will analyse magazines for their genre and unique content, assessing a variety of fashion photography styles through group and individual projects.

    Learning will include how to gather research producing professional mood boards to an advanced level, illustrating your ideas to pitch for publications, brands and emerging designer photoshoots working to a professional brief. Individual feedback and key development from Leigh and the team.

    The training informs you on industry protocols. You will learn how to engage industry experts – fashion editors, model bookers, agents, production companies and commercial clients.

    Through a series of studio based masterclasses, you will gain and expand your technical skill in studio and location work focusing on the art of light and composition.

    The photoshoot element of the course is executed at industry level working with London model agencies, and industry based hair and makeup teams who are familiar with working on fashion editorials in London and internationally. You will work across multi location, street-based and studio environments under Leigh’s direction, to master commercial and creative technique working with both natural and artificial light.  Resulting fashion stories will be submitted for publication on-line and in print to reputable magazines and LCS industry partners.

    The photoshop element of the course equips you with the professional editing skills to re-touch your own imagery. You will learn how to curate your own portfolio for prospective industry clients, how to edit your imagery shot on the course.

    Take advantage of LCS industry links and brand partners, gaining exclusive access to shoot backstage at London Fashion Week for emerging and established designers, reputable magazines and for other high profile industry fashion events.

    Master guest speakers include motivational and named fashion photographers for inspiration, guidance, networking, personal development and working opportunity.

    During the course you will visit photographers galleries and gain exclusive invites to press trips, with group discussions following these. 

    Course Outcomes

    To master a range of photographic techniques and proficiencies: Adobe Photoshop, re-touching skills, camera handling, lighting set up and other skills.

    To have developed your signature style as a fashion photographer in your body of work.

    Fully prepared impressive portfolio of works in preparation to launch your name in industry under LCS direction.

    To have the expertise to research, manage and publish your own fashion shoots at industry level with clients.

    To have developed your own network of contacts to work proficiently across commercial and creative fashion photography projects.

    Level

    This course has been designed for emerging photographers who would like to break into the world of fashion photography at professional industry level, those who are new to photography as beginners, designers, stylists and art directors. You should have a keen interest in the subject, with a basic understanding of using DSLR or SLR camera. and a desire to learn but no previous experience is required.

    Post Training support

    LCS is community focused, and all graduates of fashion photography, fashion styling and make up are encouraged to work in collaboration with each other. LCS Pro Agency also works closely with you on creating exclusive industry working opportunities with LCS brand and publication partners to accelerate your professional progression. LCS is accredited by the BAC (British Accreditation Council) and the course is Diploma certificated awarded at Pass, Merit and Distinction level of achievement.

    Equipment / Requirements of Study:

    • Adobe Creative Suite
    • Digital SLR Camera – Canon and Nikon preferred.

    All students must purchase a subscription to Adobe Creative Suite / Adobe Photoshop and have access to a laptop. Students will own their digital camera.

    • A commitment to take responsibility to work hard in a supported, creative environment

    A good command of the English language is also necessary as all classes are taught in English. All students are required to submit our completed LCS application form provided below.

    Preferably 3 GCSEs (grade A-C) or BTEC National Diploma or equivalent for international students.

    At LCS, we recognise that some of the most creative individuals are not necessarily the ones the excel academically. Therefore, please feel welcome to apply if you do not have this academic standard, and are passionate in your decision to be a Stylist, or have work experience instead.

    Applicants must be 18 years or older at the start of the course.
