You’ll focus on Portrait, Fashion and Photo Journalism as you find your style, develop your creative skills and learn how to stand out as a photographer.
Overview
Ideal for beginner to intermediate level photographers, this course begins with the basics and covers how to use your camera in a professional context. Understanding your camera and equipment is vital, as this shows you how to get the best out of them.
You’ll master using studio and natural lighting, cover depth of field, shutter speed, capturing motion, light temperature, lenses, digital image resolution, ISO and shutter speed, and how to focus the lens (auto, continuous, single etc.).
You’ll then progress to engaging master classes, where you’ll apply your new skills to Fashion, Portrait and Street (Photojournalism) Photography in both studio-based and location work.
We’ll connect you to London’s leading modelling agencies and artists for inspiring collaborations. The fashion component will create the opportunity to shoot with professional models, dressed by leading fashion PR agencies and styled by experienced fashion stylists. You’ll also gain access to creative teams of professional hair and makeup – elevating your portfolio to industry level.
This component teaches you the expertise to research, produce, manage and direct independently. You’ll also complete training in how to publish work in leading fashion publications, and how to commission work for paying commercial clients.
The portraiture component will explore the art of capturing the personality of each and every subject you shoot. Learn the art of composition, background choice and various lighting setups from artificial and natural sources. Decide on how to frame and position your client, capturing their likeness, expression, personality and mood from a range of portraiture styles, including traditional, lifestyle and environmental to conceptual, candid and surreal.
The Photojournalism (Street Photography) component of the course, explores the power of visual storytelling. Learn the art of professional photojournalism in conveying real life stories. Relating to your subjects, their views, passions and concerns as an eyewitness to real life events.
You’ll learn how to capture images that convey a visual narrative in an unbiased and fair way. You’ll also learn how news photography enables you to communicate storytelling to media editors and the general public for commissioned works.
Post-production skills will focus on the basics of Adobe Creative suite, enabling you to retouch your own imagery and build your portfolio.
